Synopsis

PRAISE HIM IDOL AFRICA

Nigeria is blessed with illustrious sons and daughters in every sphere of life. In the music world – the unsigned and unheard singing talents – hoping to be discovered. Many international artists today, started their singing career in a choir or a community musical group.  And with small efforts, repeated day in – day out have stepped out of their community into the global world of art.


For many of the unsigned and unheard talents in Nigeria – there are countless barrier namely: location/exposure to the wider world/facilities/funding etc….
Appreciating that “every artist was first an amateur”, Praise Him Idol Africa “inspirational musical talent show” intends to create a platform for budding creative talents to show off their vocal abilities in a genre of music that both blesses and inspires.


The show will scout, nurture and promote talents from across Nigeria – providing encouragement and facilities for the talents to interface with leading musicians in Nigeria and around the world.


Key criteria for the competitionTo qualify for the competition the music must be inspirational and up lighting in nature.  The contestants’ chosen entry song can be: traditional - ‘native’ (i.e. in any of the languages spoken in Nigeria) or well known inspirational or gospel song in English.


For the purpose of the competition, contestants should perform solo or as group.  All ages are welcome, however anyone under 17 years of age will be required to complete a consent form signed by a parent or guardian.  At least one parent or legal guardian must be present throughout the competition to accept any applicable prize package(s), and govern minor’s role in conjunction with his/her involvement with the competition.


The aim is to have a representative sample from across Nigeria to participate in the finale.  To realise this aspiration, the entry invitation will be published and promoted across Nigeria.  The judges will conduct pre-screening in nine centre’s – covering the thirty seven (37) States in Nigeria.  Contestants will be invited to register at one centre only – as per the grouping below.

Registration

1.    Registration forms will be available on-line at www.upgmc.com and www.kilonshele.com, and at Zenith Bank, UBA and First Bank  branches across Nigeria

2.    Contestants will be required to pay a registration fee of N5000 (five thousand Naira) upon submission of the completed form. This fee can be paid online by clicking the Pay Now button at the bottom of this page.

3.    All completed form should be submitted at any Zenith bank, UBA and First Bank.

4.    The contestants will be given a receipt and registration number upon payment and submission of their form. They will also be given a date to perform for round one of the competition


Programme Outline

1.    All entries will be considered in round one – in front of a live audience in each zone  - commencing in September 2010

2.    The judges will listen carefully to the quality and style of the singing and will select the best two contestants from each zone who will be invited to take part in the finals in Lagos

3.    The eighteen contestants (two from each zone) will be allocated a mentor who will guide them through the final stages of the competition – advising them on choices of songs and personal presentation

4.    The contestants will be short-listed over a six weeks period.  The short-listing of the constants will be determined by the judges and public votes - with the winner emerging during the last week of the competition


Prizes

The First prize:

$100,000 (One hundred thousand US Dollars) plus 42’ Inch LCD and Haier Thermocool refrigerator (le’space) with a recording deal with a top American recording label.

The Second prize:

N3,000,000 (Three Million Naira) and a 2.5 HP Cabinet A/C.

The Third prize:

N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) plus Haier Thermocool Laptop and Deep Freezer.


Judges & Production

The Show will be packaged and produced exclusively by Upfront & Personal Global Management Consultants - a UK and Nigeria based PR & Production Company in conjunction with top American production outfit.
 

The Judges will include Nigeria’s big names in the world of music and top American inspirational artists.
 

Community Support – utilising proceeds from the Show Praise Him Idol Africa – Inspirational Music competition has appointed World Kidney Heart Foundation as its supporting Charity in Africa. The organizers of the Show aims to raise funds to support the Charity by operating on thirty-seven (37) heart and three (3) kidney patients from across Nigeria.
 

The patients will be required to register with the Charity ahead of, or during the competition. At the end of the short-listing and before the finale the patients will be selected in consultation with the Charity’s specialist doctors.
 

As part of ‘patient care’, the organizers will cover the full expenses of the following for each patient:

» Pre-operation assessment (Surgeons from India)
» Visa
» Flight ticket to India
» Hotel accommodation in India
» The surgery
